The shoes you wear could also be a factor, as a lack of cushioning and support from poor-fitting shoes can increase the strain placed on the heel and plantar fascia during movement. Biomechanical issues, such as pronation or having an abnormal foot strike when walking can easily cause damage over time as well.

Pain from a heel spur often develops gradually, but as it affects sensitive tissue and nerves, the pain can easily become chronic and intense. Usually pain subsides after walking for a short while, as the tissue and nerves adjust and are the displaced by the heel spur. Pain however can increase when walking on hard or uneven surfaces or when carrying extra weight.
